HYDERABAD. NMDC Limited, India’s largest iron ore producer, has become the first mining company in the country to cross 50 million tonnes (MT) of iron ore production in a single financial year. The historic milestone was achieved on March 13, 2026, marking a significant contribution to India’s iron ore supply and strengthening NMDC’s role in supporting the domestic steel industry with high-grade ore.
The company’s production has grown rapidly over the years, increasing from around 30 MT in 2015 to 50 MT in FY 2025–26, with nearly one-fifth of its current capacity added in the last four years. Established in 1958, NMDC had taken nearly two decades to reach 10 MT production but has now expanded fivefold. The achievement is also an important step towards the company’s Vision 2030 target of reaching 100 MT production capacity to support India’s goal of achieving 300 MT steelmaking capacity by 2030.
