A PLOT worth Rs. 400 crore belong to Uttar Pradesh politician Mayawati’s brother Ananad Kumar was seized by the Income Tax department .
A government order said the seven-acre plot was “beneficially owned” by Mayawati’s brother Anand Kumar and his wife Vichiter Lata.
An order to seize the plot was issued on Tuesday by the Delhi-based Benami Prohibition Unit of the Income Tax department.
Mayawati recently appointed her brother as the national vice president of her Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
The order said Anand Kumar and his wife were benami or proxy owners of the property.
According to the law, those charged with violating the Benami Act can face rigorous imprisonment for up to seven years and will be liable to pay up to 25 per cent of fair market value of the’ property.
meanwhile Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati lashed out at the BJP-led central government over the attachment of her brother Anand Kumar’s property in Noida.
Taking to Twitter, Mayawati claimed that the ruling party is “misusing” its power to implicate members of the opposition in false cases and torturing them.
Condemning the “torture” of her brother, Mayawati, however, said the party will not be bogged down by such acts.
Recalling a similar incident from 2003, the BSP chief claimed that the BJP had opposed the party. However, it was granted relief by the Supreme Court, she said.
