Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) to the Government of India, unveiled the “Bharat Zero Emission Trucking (ZET) Policy Advisory” document at the Vigyan Bhawan Annexe in New Delhi on August 21, 2024.
In his opening remarks, PSA Prof. Sood highlighted the critical role of Zero Emission Trucks (ZETs) in advancing both decarbonization and energy security. He stated, “The successful induction and widespread adoption of ZETs necessitate technical expertise and systematic policy interventions to foster a supportive techno-socio-economic ecosystem in India.”
The Bharat ZET Policy Advisory is designed as a dynamic document, presenting a comprehensive framework of 30 policy interventions aimed at accelerating the adoption of ZETs in India. These interventions are organized into five key areas: incentives, regulations, infrastructure, business and financing, and stakeholder-centric initiatives. Each intervention specifies a nodal agency for implementation, identifies key stakeholders, assesses its sectoral impact, and outlines the policy formulation methodology. The recommendations will be further refined through extensive consultations with stakeholders, including detailed cost-benefit and impact analyses conducted by relevant ministries, departments, and institutions.
