BONGAIGAON. The Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) 2025 at NTPC Bongaigaon officially launched with an inspiring inauguration ceremony, reaffirming NTPC’s steadfast commitment to fostering the holistic growth of rural girls. The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries including Smt. Masanda Partin, IAS, District Commissioner of Kokrajhar; Shri Arnab Maitra, Head of Project at NTPC Bongaigaon; and Smt. Kasturi Maitra, President of Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club.
Now in its fourth successful year, GEM continues to empower young girls aged 10–12 years, nurturing their self-confidence, leadership skills, and social responsibility. This year, 40 talented girls from 12 neighboring schools have been selected to participate in a comprehensive program designed to inspire and transform.
The inaugural event set the tone with a ceremonial lamp lighting and the presentation of NTPC’s theme song, symbolizing the organization’s ongoing dedication to progress and women’s empowerment. The ceremony was attended by distinguished leaders such as Shri Debarata Kar, CGM (O&M); Smt. Soumya Kar, Vice President of Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club; Shri L.N. Meitei, Commandant of CISF; and Shri Amit Kr. Asthana, Head of HR, along with representatives from unions, welfare bodies, and proud parents.
Highlights of the event included a short film showcasing GEM 2025’s impactful activities, vibrant cultural performances by students of Bal Bhawan and Notre Dame Academy, and heartfelt testimonials from GEM alumni who shared their inspiring journeys of self-discovery and empowerment. Additionally, students performed a compelling act on ‘Educating the Girl Child,’ demonstrating their awareness and creativity.
In her address, DC Smt. Masanda Partin emphasized the crucial role of girls’ empowerment in strengthening families and communities, while Shri Arnab Maitra reaffirmed NTPC’s dedication to inclusive development, education, and leadership building through GEM as a flagship initiative.
Running from July 1 to July 30, 2025, GEM 2025 promises a transformative experience for participants through structured modules, creative activities, and a focus on their physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
NTPC’s GEM program has already empowered over 12,700 girls across all its locations, exemplifying the company’s unwavering commitment to social responsibility, gender equality, and sustainable community development. The ongoing success of GEM underscores NTPC’s role in shaping future women leaders and fostering inclusive growth at the grassroots level.
