Fire Fighting and Rescue Demonstrations were held at different places of the Steel Township by the Fire Services Department of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant targeting different target populations to mark the ongoing Fire Services Week-2025.

Mass Public awareness cum rescue demonstration was conducted at Jangyaseeni, Sector – 17 on 15th April. A group of around 60 homemakers were educated about various fire fighting and rescue techniques as well as the use and application of different fire fighting equipments through practical demonstrations with special focus on LPG Gas Cylinder safety.

On 16th April, a Fire Fighting and Rescue Demonstration was organized at Delhi Public School, Sec-14 which was attended by around 200 school students from Class IX to XII.

Another such demonstration was conducted at Home & Hope, Sec-17, in which fire fighting techniques were taught to more than 60 differently-abled students.

The Fire Services collective also recently organised a Medley Fire Drill Competition at the Fire Service Training Centre. Six teams comprising personnel from the Fire Services Department—including the Central Fire Station, Modernisation Fire Station, CCD Fire Station, Rolling Mills Fire Station, Preventive Sections, and a combined team from the Training, Maintenance, and Office Sections—participated in the competition. Participants were given a simulated emergency scenario involving fire fighting, rescue operations, ladle picking, dummy lifting, and target hitting. The competition began at a designated starting line, with fire targets set in place. The team that completed the entire drill—including wrapping up all equipment—in the shortest time from the first whistle to the final whistle was declared the winner.

The Fire Services team of RSP organised the programmes under the guidance of Mr. J B Pattnaik, GM (Fire Services) and Mr. M Sonkusare, DGM (Fire Services). The trainings were imparted by Mr. Sukdeb Goswami Deputy Manager, (Fire Services) and his team.
