The dedicated medical team at Ispat General Hospital (IGH), SAIL Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has once again demonstrated their exceptional expertise by saving the life of a 19-year-old accident victim. The young man, son of an RSP employee, was critically injured in a road traffic accident on 13th January and was brought to the hospital in a nearly comatose state with severe head injury, a fractured left arm, and multiple facial fractures. On examination, it was found that the young man had bleeding in the brain (right frontal contusion).
Seeing the condition of the patient, immediately on the day of admission Life Saving Neuro Surgical procedure was done by Dr. Manoj Kumar Deo (Senior Consultant, Neurosurgery) to remove the right frontal contusion. After a week two successive surgeries were performed. Surgery for facial bone fracture was done by Dr. G. S. Sahoo (Specialist- Plastic Surgery) and Dr. Ruby Singh (Senior Consultant- Plastic Surgery). The orthopedic surgery for the Left fractured arm was conducted by Dr. S K Tiwary, Additional CMO and Dr. S. Rout (Consultant, Orthopedics). In each of these cases Anesthesia and ICU Backup support was provided by Dr. Sanjukta Panigrahi (Additional CMO). The team of highly skilled doctors were supported by the nursing and paramedical staff, ensuring seamless execution of the critical procedures.
The surgeries were successful, and after weeks of intensive care and monitoring, the patient made a remarkable recovery. The patient was discharged on 17th February, 2025 after complete recovery.
