Union Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh laid the foundation stone of NTPC’s unique solar hydrogen based microgrid project for the Indian Army located at Chushul in Ladakh through video-conferencing from Delhi.
NTPC along with NGEL team have designed an isolated microgrid system using hydrogen as the energy storage medium for supplying 200 kW at any hour of the day throughout the year at an altitude of 4400 m. Once operational, it would usher in a new era of decarbonisation of the defence sector far off the Himalayas.
The Solar-Hydrogen based microgrid would be set up by NTPC and maintained for a period of 25 years. This novel project is being undertaken by NTPC to support our soldiers defending such locations at challenging climatic conditions.
