Union Minister of State for Housing & Urban Affairs, Sh. Tokhan Sahu, inaugurated the DMRC-Udaan Children Home near Dilshad Garden Metro Station through a virtual event. Constructed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the facility aims to provide a safe, nurturing, and enriching environment for destitute girls aged 5 to 18 years. The home has been formally transferred to Salaam Baalak Trust, a renowned NGO known for its extensive work with street children, offering services that include education, healthcare, and skill development to empower these young individuals to build a brighter future.

During the inauguration, Hon’ble MoS Sh. Tokhan Sahu expressed his appreciation for this significant initiative, emphasizing its importance on International Women’s Day. He highlighted that the DMRC and Salaam Baalak Trust’s collaboration will create a secure and supportive environment for young girls who have faced immense hardships, enabling them to dream without fear and providing them with essential resources for safety and education.

The DMRC Girls Home spans 3,142 square meters, featuring accommodations for up to 96 girls, dedicated dormitories for differently-abled children, and extensive educational facilities, including classrooms, a computer lab, and a library. Additionally, the home ensures safety and sustainability with CCTV surveillance, earthquake resistance, fire safety measures, rainwater harvesting, and a sewage treatment plant. DMRC’s commitment to women’s safety extends beyond the home, with initiatives that include reserved coaches, security personnel, a dedicated helpline, and social media campaigns aimed at raising awareness about harassment.
