The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has completed a significant tunneling milestone on the Tughlakabad-Aerocity corridor of Phase 4. A Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) broke through at Chhatarpur Mandir Station after completing an 865-meter tunnel at an average depth of 15 meters. The breakthrough event was attended by key officials, including Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena and Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot. This new tunnel, part of the 19.343-kilometer underground stretch of the corridor, was constructed using the Earth Pressure Balancing Method (EPBM). Despite challenges like shifting a 66 KV electrical line and tunneling below the existing Yellow Line viaduct, the project was completed without disrupting ongoing metro operations.
