On December 23, 2024, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar launched the first phase of the ‘Pragati Yatra’ in West Champaran. He laid the foundation stone for 300 schemes worth Rs 545.24 crore and inaugurated 59 schemes worth Rs 34.72 crore. In total, he inaugurated and laid the foundation for 400 projects worth Rs 752.17 crore in the district.
The Chief Minister visited the MNREGA park in Shikarpur village, where he inspected a pond and distributed fish to village organizations for livelihood. He also inaugurated a library and Utsav Bhavan. Library is located just south of the Utsav Bhavan. This library has a seating arrangement for 30 people at a time along with a collection of about 1000 different types of informative books. This library is constructed by the Panchayati Raj Department in the financial year 2024-25.
Kumar unveiled the District Emergency Response Facility-cum-Training Centre, which will improve disaster preparedness.This building has arrangements for the SDRF team’s stay, training and to deal with disaster-like situations. Due to the construction of the building, there will be 24-hour preparedness to deal with disasters. Disaster Management Department, Patna will conduct excellent response related activities during disasters.
He laid the foundation for several infrastructure projects, including the Masan River embankment, a minority residential school, and a high-level bridge. He also distributed appointment letters, land leases, and bus keys under various welfare schemes.
In Bettiah, Kumar visited the Maharaja Stadium at Ramna Maidan, where local sports enthusiasts requested a high-quality stadium. The proposed new stadium would provide better facilities for athletes and help host state, national, and international events, boosting the district’s sports profile
