Reinforcing its commitment to creating a safer and healthier society, NTPC Bongaigaon, in collaboration with Kokrajhar Police, organized an Awareness Programme for Village Defence Parties (VDPs) on Drug Abuse Prevention under the National Narcotics Coordination Portal (NCORD) framework, themed “Towards a Drug-Free India.” Led by Shri Pushpraj Singh, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Kokrajhar, the session addressed the alarming rise in substance abuse and emphasized the need for coordinated community action, urging VDP members to act as the first line of defense by sharing timely intelligence and fostering trust within their localities.
Shri Arnab Maitra, Head of Project at NTPC Bongaigaon, reiterated the company’s dedication to nation-building and social responsibility, noting its commitment to raising awareness on various social issues alongside its power generation endeavors. He commended Kokrajhar Police’s efforts and assured continued support for similar initiatives. Additionally, Shri P. Rajkhowa, Additional SP, discussed efforts under NCORD to dismantle narcotics trafficking networks and praised VDPs for their role in village security, highlighting the importance of increased awareness for prevention.
Shri Onkar Nath, Head of HR at NTPC Bongaigaon, stressed the significance of outreach and preventive education at the grassroots level in combating drug abuse, while expressing gratitude to VDP members and police officials for their proactive engagement. The event, which also included the presence of Shri Ashish Kumar, Deputy Commandant of CISF, along with other security representatives, saw active participation from VDP members and security personnel, making the interaction informative and engaging, thus reflecting NTPC Bongaigaon’s ongoing focus on strengthening community ties and collaborating with local law enforcement for societal improvement.
