As part of the upcoming Utkalamani Gopabandhu Das Jayanti celebrations, the Town Services (Education Unit) of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant organized an inter-school elocution competition on 23rd September at Ispat Vidya Mandir, Sector-19. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation of students across 16 schools of Rourkela Steel Township and Municipality area.
A total of 194 students competed in the event with 94 participants from the Junior Group (class VII-IX) and 100 participants from the Senior Group (class X-XII). The theme of the competition was ‘Utkalamani Gopabandhu Das: The Educationist who championed Holistic Development.’ which was conducted in three languages namely Odia, Hindi and English, providing students with a platform to showcase their oratory skills in their preferred medium.
Students spoke passionately on the life, vision and contributions of Pandit Utkalamani Gopabandhu Das, highlighting his role as a social reformer and educationist who worked tirelessly for holistic development. The event was conducted in two sessions. A panel of eminent judges both from within and outside RSP evaluated the performances.
The winners will be felicitated on 9th October 2025, during the Utkalamani Gopabandhu Jayanti Celebrations to be held at Gopabandhu Statue premises, Ambagan chowk. The event witnessed active support from principals, teachers and parents, reflecting the cultural and educational vibrancy of Rourkela Steel Plant Township.
