In a significant step towards community development, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a unit of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), has inaugurated a modern community centre in Sadak Toli of Badmaraein Village, Lathikata Block. The infrastructure facility, built under RSP’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, aims to provide a safe and conducive space for villagers to conduct various activities.
Ms. Meena Ekka, President of Maa Tarini Self Help Group, expressed her gratitude towards RSP for fulfilling the long-standing demand of the villagers. “For years, we struggled to find a suitable venue for our village meetings, marriage functions, and SHG meetings. We would often gather under the tree, but it wasn’t ideal. The need for a community centre became evident during a Laxmi Puja celebration when a sudden downpour left us seeking shelter. We are thrilled that RSP has made this dream a reality,” she said with a beaming smile.
The community centre features a big hall, two rooms, and a front veranda with electrical fittings, providing ample space for various activities. Villagers can now conduct meetings, cultural events, and educational programs in a comfortable and dignified manner. Children can attend tuition classes, and SHG groups can hold their meetings without any hindrance.
RSP’s CSR office worked closely with the villagers and Zilla Parishad member Mr. Ramesh Nag to bring this project to life. The Community Centre has not only provided a much-needed infrastructure but also empowered the villagers to take their development initiatives forward. The project has created a positive impact on the social and economic fabric of the village, fostering a sense of community and cooperation among the villagers.
