In line with the directives of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), the Learning and Development Department of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Government ITI, Rourkela, in December to implement the ‘Dual System of Training’ (DST) scheme.
The MoU which is of the duration of three years, was signed by Mr. P K Sahoo, CGM (MS & HR-L&D), on behalf of RSP, and Mr. Daman Soren, Principal, Government ITI, Rourkela. The signing ceremony was held in the presence of Ms. Chaitali Das, GM (HR-L&D), along with other officers from both institutions.
Under this agreement, the DST program will allow regular ITI students to undertake their first year of theoretical training at the ITI, followed by nine months of industrial training in the second year. Subsequently, students will return to the ITI to complete the remaining three months of their curriculum. This unique structure would ensure a seamless integration of classroom learning with practical industrial exposure.
The DST scheme aims to bridge the gap between industry requirements and skilled manpower availability by integrating theoretical training at ITIs with hands-on practical training in industries. It would provide students with exposure to the latest industrial technologies, enabling them to acquire practical skills in real-world settings.
Trainees completing the DST program will be awarded the National Trade Certificate (NTC), giving them an edge over regular ITI pass-outs in terms of employability and career opportunities in the industry. This initiative would foster industry linkages and equip trainees to meet the skilled workforce demands of modern industries.
The collaboration would help create a skilled and industry-ready workforce. The MoU also aligns with the Development General Training’s (DGT) vision of encouraging ITIs to adopt the DST scheme, ensuring trainees are well-prepared for the dynamic needs of the industry.
