Air India Introduces In-Flight Wi-Fi on Domestic Routes

Air India becomes the first Indian airline to offer in-flight Wi-Fi connectivity on domestic flights, following a recent amendment to the Flight and Maritime Connectivity (Amendment) Rules, 2024. The new regulations allow in-flight Wi-Fi once the aircraft reaches a minimum altitude of 3,000 meters. Passengers will be able to access Wi-Fi using electronic devices such as smartphones, laptops, and tablets.

The service, available on select aircraft including the Airbus A350, Boeing 787-9, and certain Airbus A321neo models, is aimed at enhancing passenger convenience, allowing travellers to browse the internet, use social media, catch up on work, or stay in touch with friends and family during their flights.

Rajesh Dogra, Air India’s Chief Customer Experience Officer, emphasized that connectivity is an essential part of modern travel, improving both convenience and productivity for passengers. He added that Air India is confident that the new service will be appreciated by passengers, whether they are traveling for business or leisure.

Passengers can use the Wi-Fi service on laptops, tablets, and smartphones running on iOS or Android operating systems. The Wi-Fi will also support multiple device connections simultaneously once the aircraft reaches an altitude of 10,000 feet.

This development is expected to set a new standard for domestic air travel in India, improving the overall flying experience for passengers.
