A meditation workshop was organized at the Learning & Development Department of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) to commemorate 1st World Meditation Day on 21st December, 2024. Mr. Alok Verma, ED In-Charge (Works) was the Chief Guest while Swamiji Bhaskarananda, Senior Faculty, Art of Living and Director of Vedic Dhama Sansthan was the Guest Speaker of the session. Mr. B R Palai, ED (Operations), Mr. Anil Kumar, ED (MM), Mr. S PalChoudhury, ED (Projects), Dr. J K Acharya, CMO In-Charge (M&HS), many CGMs, HODs and around 300 employees of the plant were present in the session. Notably, earlier this month, the 193-member UN General Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution declaring December 21 as World Meditation Day.
In his keynote address, Swamiji Bhaskarananda said, “Just as our body needs food, our mind needs meditation. Meditation or Prananyams have been part of our culture for last many centuries. It is heartening that the UN has realized its importance and declared this day as Meditation Day”. Swamiji also conducted a special meditation session for the attendees, starting with Pranayams like Anulom-Vilom. A 22-minute silent meditation was done during the session.
Sharing his experience after the meditation, Mr. Alok Verma said, “We go through a lot of ups and downs in life and we have so many things to think and decide. Meditation helps to process those thoughts and react to it.” Mr. Verma also felicitated the guest speaker during the occasion.
At the outset, Mr. P K Sahoo, CGM (MS & HR-L&D) delivered the welcome address and outlined the importance of mediation in life. Ms. Arnnapurna Behera, Senior Manager (HR-L&D) coordinated the session and also delivered the vote of thanks.
