A Professional talk on ‘Developing Problem Solving Mindset on the Emerging Challenges in the Industries’ was held at the Learning and Development Department of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) on 16th November, 2024. Mr. P K Maharana, GM (Internal Audit) presided over the session. Prof. Partha Dasgupta, Senior Fellow IIT Guwahati Technology Innovation Hub, was the Guest Speaker. More than 50 Senior Officers in the level including HODs attended the session.
The motivational guest speaker underscored the importance of maintaining a “free-flow zone,” where responsibilities align seamlessly with one’s assignments. The speaker emphasized that to bridge any skill gaps and ensure smooth execution of responsibilities, individuals must cultivate a problem-solving mindset. Key principles shared during the session included being curious to overcome natural biases, adopting an imperfectionist approach to embrace uncertainties, and leveraging a “dragonfly-eye” perspective to synthesize diverse viewpoints for clarity and better predictions. Further, the speaker introduced the concept of “Occurrent Behavior,” encouraging participants to actively create data and challenge existing hypotheses to drive innovation. Emphasis was also placed on the power of collective intelligence in decision-making and the importance of clear communication, encapsulated in the principle of “Show and Tell.” These insights aimed to equip leaders with strategies to foster adaptability, collaboration, and creativity in their problem-solving processes.
