The New Plate Mill (NPM) of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) surpassed many milestones in October 2026, by registering its best-ever monthly dispatch and breaking key production records.
The New Plate Mill set a fresh benchmark by dispatching 1,03,462 tonnes of steel plates in October 2026. This performance surpassed its previous all-time monthly record of 93,527 tonnes established in March 2026. Key highlights of the October 2026 dispatch figures include a record road dispatch of 17,284 tonnes. The mill loaded 474 trailers and 1,354 wagons during the month, maintaining a daily loading average of 15 trailers per day and 43 wagons per day. Driven by active stock movement, opening stock was brought down from 32,116 tonnes on October 1st to 22335 tonnes by month-end, marking a sharp 30.5 % inventory reduction of 9781 tonnes. This dispatch landmark was achieved through seamless cross-functional synergy between the New Plate Mill Shipping team, Production Planning & Control (PPC), Research & Control Laboratory (RCL), and Traffic & Raw Materials (T&RM) departments.
Parallel to its logistics success, the mill recorded significant productivity across rolling parameters during October 2026. It achieved an all-time best monthly rolling by rolling 9,041 slabs, surpassing its previous best of 8,809 slabs from March 2026. Additionally, the total plate weight reached 93,239 tonnes, securing the highest October production by eclipsing the previous October best of 8,7793 tonnes recorded in October 2025.
The mill sustained high operational momentum throughout the month, recording an average rolling rate of 292 slabs per day. Notably, the mill crossed the high-productivity threshold of rolling more than 300 slabs per day on 20 days during October.
