The CSR Department of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant under its Sports initiative ‘Project Arjun’ had identified and sponsored 40 promising Footballers from peripheral villages and Resettlement Colonies of RSP for a month long Football Training Program at KIIT Sports Centre, Bhubaneswar.
On their return a feedback session and certificate distribution ceremony was organized at the Institute of Periphery Development (IPD) Building. Mr. Santosh Kumar Bhuyan, GM (TRM), Ms. Munmun Mittra, GM In-charge (CSR) and Mr. Raghu Padhi, Deputy Manager (Sports) were present on the occasion, facilitating the feedback session and handing over the completion certificates to the candidates.
Mr. Santosh Kumar Bhuyan and Mr. Raghu Padhi encouraged the youngsters to leverage the training for their growth in the sport and applauded RSP’s initiative in nurturing young talent from the rural populace.
At the outset Ms. Munmun Mittra, welcomed the gathering while Mr. T B Toppo, AGM (CSR) proposed a formal vote of thanks. The programme was coordinated by Ms. Richa Sudhiram, Manager (CSR) and Mr. Benedict Ekka, Senior Field Assistant (CSR).
The month-long training program, which commenced on 20th October 2024 and concluded on 18th November 2024, provided the young athletes with specialized coaching, accommodation, and logistics support at KIIT-Sports Centre, Bhubaneswar. Approximately Rs.9.94 lakhs was allocated by RSP for this initiative. The participants of this program were identified from the Samvardhan tournament, an annual sports competition organized by RSP’s CSR department across the four adjacent revenue blocks. The selected candidates were groomed under expert guidance during the 30-day training session, that enhanced their skills and prepared them for higher-level competitions.
Notably, Project Arjun, launched in the financial year 2022-23, aims to identify and nurture young athletes from peripheral villages, helping them realize their potential and excel in sports.
