World Breastfeeding Day 2025 observed at IGH of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant

World Breastfeeding Day 2025 was observed at the New Conference Hall of Ispat General Hospital (IGH) of  SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) on 6th August. The event was organized by the Nurses Training Institute (NTI) of IGH. Dr. (Ms) Prativa Sadangi, Chief Medical Officer (M&HS), graced the occasion as the Chief Guest while Dr. Prashant Kumar Patra, President, Indian Association of Pediatrics (IAP) Sundargarh Branch was the Guest of Honour. Other dignitaries present on the occasion included Dr. Sonia Joshi, Additional CMO (M&HS) and In-charge, NTI and Dr. Archana Behera, Additional CMO (M&HS). The function was attended by the students and staff of NTI.

World Breastfeeding Day 2025 observed at  IGH of SAIL Rourkela Steel Plant

The theme for this year’s Breast Feeding Day was, “Prioritize Breastfeeding, Create Sustainable Support System”, emphasizing the need for a collective and sustained effort to support breastfeeding practices in the community. The programme commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries present, marking an auspicious beginning.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Prativa Sadangi emphasized the critical role of breastfeeding in ensuring a healthy start to a child’s life and reducing infant mortality. She highlighted the importance of creating a supportive environment, both in healthcare facilities and at the community level to encourage mothers to breastfeed.

Dr. Prashant Kumar Patra, in his address, shed light on the medical and emotional benefits of breastfeeding for both infants and mothers. He appreciated the efforts of IGH and NTI in organizing awareness programs and training sessions that strengthen pediatric and maternal care.

The other dignitaries also spoke on the occasion, underlining the need for collaborative support among healthcare professionals, families, and policy-makers to promote and sustain breastfeeding practices.

A theme-based presentation was made  by the Department of Pediatrics, which offered insights into sustainable practices and policies to enhance breastfeeding support.

As part of the celebration, prizes were distributed by the dignitaries to GNM students of NTI who had excelled in competitions and activities related to the theme.

Ms. Bidyut Prabha Goth, Principal (NTI) delivered the welcome address while  Ms. Jyotirmayee, Tutor (NTI) coordinated the function.
