Women groups of Sector – 4 of Steel Township have joined hands with the Public Health Unit of Town Engineering Department of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant in stepping up the efforts to prevent and control the spread of Dengue in the township.
The group has been instrumental in creating awareness and destructing potential breeding sites in the area.
The team of sixty volunteers selected from the Plant and the women’s groups have been visiting households, market areas and slums and making people aware about prevention of Dengue. They are also helping out in distribution of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) material like pamphlets to create awareness.
Anti-larval sprays are being sprayed regularly in waterlogged areas. Besides, other measures like removal of garbage from roadside and nearby slums and cutting of bushes as well as cleaning of drains are also being taken in a prescribed manner. Special emphasis is being laid on the dry day concept, i.e. one hour on any one day of the week will be devoted to cleanliness, hygiene and sanitisation of water in and around houses. Notices are being issued to individual residents and shopkeepers to maintain cleanliness in and around their houses to eliminate potential breeding sites.
