Union Minister for Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal, recently honored the CMDs of NHPC and SJVNL for achieving ‘Navratna’ status from the Government of India. This designation, effective from August 30, 2024, grants these hydro power Central Public Sector Undertakings greater operational and financial autonomy. Shri Manohar Lal hailed the milestone, emphasizing the role of NHPC and SJVNL in harnessing hydro power while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. With the new status, both companies can make faster decisions, establish joint ventures abroad, and pursue technological innovations, enhancing growth and market reach. NHPC has an installed capacity of 7144 MW and SJVNL 2467 MW.
