In a major step towards operational excellence and advanced logistics, Track Mobile Operation was inaugurated at SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) by Mr. Biswaranjan Palai, ED (Works) on 30th July, 2025 in a programme organized at Traffic & Raw Materials Department (T&RM). Mr. K Sunyani, CGM (T&RM), Mr. D Palo, CGM (Mechanical), several other CGMs, Senior Officers and employees of the department were present on the occasion.
Mr. Palai inspected the newly commissioned machinery and appreciated the modern features of the system. He urged the collective to utilize the facility to its fullest potential emphasizing the importance of such initiatives in improving internal logistics, boosting productivity, and reducing operational delays. The ED (Works) later flagged off the vehicle.
It is worth mentioning here that the dual-mode Track Mobiles, leased from Messers Lloyds Engineering Corporation Pvt. Ltd., can operate on both road and rail. Powered by Cummins diesel engines with a 300-litre fuel tank, each unit delivers a tractive effort of up to 60,225 lbs. Unlike conventional systems that push wagons, these units pull them, enhancing control, safety, and reducing derailment risks. Notably, three Track Mobiles have been leased and once fully deployed, the three units will significantly improve in-plant wagon movement, decongest lines, and lower dependence on shunting locomotives. This initiative marks a key step in enhancing logistics efficiency and infrastructure modernization at RSP. Three such track mobiles will operate inside the plant.
The commissioning was coordinated by Mr. Arvind Upadhyaya, DGM (T&RM) under the guidance of CGM (T&RM).
