RISHIKESH. A tunnel being constructed by THDC for a power project at Pipalkoti in Uttarakhand witnessed an incident after water and debris entered through openings from above, trapping several workers inside. Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Anand Vardhan said approximately eight workers have already been rescued, while rescue operations remain underway to ensure the safety of others. The District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police have reached the site, with personnel from the CISF, state police and SDRF engaged in the response. An NDRF team has also been deployed from Rudraprayag to support the rescue effort. The Health Secretary has mobilised medical teams, while the PWD and NHIDCL have been instructed to keep necessary equipment ready for immediate deployment. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating relief and rescue operations at the site.
