Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the technology will help in the largest Covid-19 vaccination drive in India. Three leading vaccine developers – Pfizer Inc, Serum Institute of India Ltd and Bharat Biotech International Limited – have applied for emergency use authorisation in India.

“It is because of mobile technology that India will embark on one of the largest Covid-19 vaccination drives,” PM Modi said at the fourth Indian Mobile Congress.

The conference, which is a three-day event, is being attended by over 110 distinguished speakers and industry leaders from across the globe, including 30 start-ups presenting innovative and sustainable technological solutions.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi delivered inaugural address at the virtual India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2020 through video conference. The theme for IMC 2020 is “Inclusive Innovation – Smart, Secure, Sustainable”. It aims to align to the Prime Minister’s vision to promote ‘AatmaNirbhar Bharat’, ‘Digital Inclusivity’, and ‘Sustainable development, entrepreneurship & innovation’. It also aims to drive foreign and local investments, encourage R&D in the telecom and emerging technology sectors. Addressing the event, the Prime Minister gave a call to work together to make India a global hub for telecom equipment, design, development and manufacturing.

He cautioned, due to technological upgradation, we have a culture of replacing handsets and gadgets frequently. The Prime Minister stressed that it is because of mobile technology that we are able to provide benefits worth billions of dollars to millions of Indians, we were able to help the poor and vulnerable quickly during the pandemic and we are seeing billions of cashless transactions which boost formalisation and transparency and we will also enable a smooth contactless interface on toll booths.

The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction on achieving success in mobile manufacturing in India. He said India is emerging as one of the most preferred destinations for mobile manufacturing.

meanwhile industrialists Mukesh Ambani and Sunil Mittal have differed—once again—on the timing of the rollout of 5G technology.

Ambani, who controls India’s largest telecom service provider Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd, said his company is ready to offer fifth-generation wireless service by the second half of 2021.

But Mittal, chairperson of Bharti Airtel Ltd, said that it may take two-to-three years for the domestic telecom market to mature enough for 5G services.

Both were speaking at the fourth edition of India Mobile Congress (IMC) on Tuesday.

Next time if you are dialing a mobile phone from landline connection you will be needed to dial 0 before the mobile number . its done on TRAI recommendations.

With the consideration of TRAI Recommendation on “Ensuring Adequate Numbering Resources for Fixed Line and Mobile Services” Department of Telecommunications has taken the decision of implementing the following:

All Fixed to Mobile calls will be dialed with prefix ‘0’ from 15th January, 2021.

There will be no change in dialing plan from fixed to fixed, mobile to fixed and mobile to mobile calls.

Suitable announcementwill be made for the same. This announcement shall be played whenever a subscriber dials a fixed to mobile call without prefixing ‘0’.

All fixed line subscribers will be provided with ‘0’ dialing facility.

A total of approximately 2539 million numbering series is expected to be generated from the above. This will free up sufficient numbering resources for future use.

With the freeing up of sufficient numbering resources, more number of connections can be added in future which will be beneficial to the mobile customers at large.

The above changes have been done in order to have minimum inconvenience to the subscribers and freeing up essential numbering resources.
