Over 8.49 lakh KL fuel moved in 8 days as demand accelerates nationwide

119 lakh LPG cylinders delivered in 8 days; infrastructure geared for 15 lakh daily dispatches

Digital bookings touch 98.5%, signalling near-complete consumer transition

4,500+ inspections and 650+ raids reinforce zero-tolerance enforcement (14th Mar’26 to 7th Apr’26)

Kolkata, April 09, 2026: As India witnesses a sharp uptick in mobility and energy consumption, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) has ramped up its operations to deliver one of its most intensive supply cycles in recent times, ensuring that fuel and LPG continue to reach every corner of the country without disruption.

Between 1st and 8th April 2026, HPCL recorded sales of 3,02,631 KL of Petrol and 5,46,690 KL of Diesel, reflecting strong, sustained consumption across urban and rural markets alike. To keep pace with this surge, the Company orchestrated a large-scale logistics effort, dispatching 55,589 tankers and moving over 8.49 lakh KL of fuel across its nationwide network.

What makes this cycle significant is not just the scale, but the speed and synchronisation of operations—terminals, depots, tankers and retail outlets working in tandem to ensure continuous replenishment, even as demand peaks in select regions.

HPCL’s LPG ecosystem has mirrored this resilience. During the same period, the Company delivered 119 lakh LPG cylinders, supported by a robust supply infrastructure capable of handling over 15 lakh cylinder dispatches daily. This capacity ensures that even under pressure, delivery timelines remain stable and predictable.

The rising demand for Free Trade LPG cylinders—with 2,27,075 units of 5 Kg and 17,640 units of 2 Kg supplied—also reflects a deeper shift towards inclusive energy access, particularly among migrant and low-income households.

At the same time, HPCL’s LPG business is undergoing a rapid digital transformation. With 98.5% of bookings now routed through digital platforms, the Company is nearing a fully digital consumer interface—enabling faster service, reduced friction, and enhanced transparency through OTP-based authentication.
Parallel to its supply push, HPCL has intensified its vigilance framework, ensuring that system integrity is maintained during periods of high demand.

Between 14th March and 7th April 2026, the Company:

Conducted 4,524 inspections

Took action against 87 distributors, including 28 suspensions

Carried out 658 raids

Registered 40 FIRs and seized 3,172 LPG cylinders

This dual approach of scale and scrutiny reflects HPCL’s zero-tolerance stance towards malpractices, ensuring that supplies reach genuine consumers without diversion or disruption.
Beyond immediate operations, HPCL continues to strengthen its long-term supply backbone. Strategic investments in refining capacity and infrastructure, including key projects such as the Rajasthan refinery, are expected to further enhance domestic energy security and reduce import dependence.

HPCL reiterated that fuel and LPG supplies remain stable across its network, and the current demand environment is being effectively managed through proactive planning, real-time monitoring, and coordinated execution.

Consumers are advised to avoid panic-driven purchases and adhere to normal consumption patterns, while relying on official HPCL communication channels for accurate information.

With its ability to combine scale, agility, digital integration, and field-level vigilance, HPCL continues to ensure that India’s energy needs are met seamlessly—even in times of heightened demand.

CHENNAI: India’s 500 MWe Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR) at Kalpakkam has achieved first criticality, marking a major milestone in the second stage of the country’s nuclear programme. The sodium-cooled, pool-type reactor, developed indigenously by BHAVINI with support from over 200 Indian industries, is designed to produce more fuel than it consumes using a closed fuel cycle, enabling long-term use of India’s thorium reserves. With this achievement, India moves closer to becoming the second country after Russia to operate a commercial fast breeder reactor, strengthening energy security and advancing clean, self-reliant power generation.
