SJVN CMD Reviews Progress of 900 MW Arun-3 Hydro Electric Project in Nepal

NEW DELHI – Shri Bhupender Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director of SJVN, along with Shri Ajay Kumar Sharma, Director (Personnel), visited the 900 MW Arun-3 Hydro Electric Project in Nepal to review the progress of this strategically important cross-border hydropower venture. The delegation inspected key project sites, including the dam site at Phaksinda and the powerhouse facilities at Pukhuwa, where detailed briefings were given on construction progress, challenges posed by the Himalayan terrain and weather, and measures being adopted to ensure timely execution. Shri Gupta stressed the need to maintain the highest standards of safety, quality and efficiency, highlighting the importance of Arun-3 in strengthening clean energy cooperation between India and Nepal.

Commending the dedication of the workforce operating under challenging conditions, the CMD said the project is a flagship initiative that will significantly contribute to the energy security and economic development of both countries. He emphasised that the commissioning of Arun-3 will add 900 MW of clean and renewable energy, reinforcing regional cooperation and sustainable growth. Director (Personnel) Shri Ajay Kumar Sharma also appreciated the efforts of the project team and underlined the importance of discipline, teamwork and adherence to safety norms to achieve project milestones on schedule. The Arun-3 project is being developed by SJVN through its wholly owned subsidiary SJVN Arun-3 Power Development Company Pvt. Ltd. in Nepal’s Sankhuwasabha district.
