Shrusti Quality Circle of Oxygen Plant of  SAIL Rourkela Steel Plant excels in 5S implementation

The Shrusti Quality Circle team of the Oxygen Plant at SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant, has successfully implemented and sustained the 5S methodology across key areas of the Oxygen Plant, marking a significant achievement in operational excellence. The 5S implementation was carried out in four critical zones namely, Propane Plant-2, Propane Plant-3, Machine Shop, and the Atlas Copco Air Station, with the team receiving 5S certification from the Quality Circle Forum of India (QCFI) in April 2023.

Ever since achieving certification, the team has maintained rigorous standards to ensure the continuous application of 5S principles. Their efforts were validated through two successful Surveillance Audits conducted by QCFI on 11th January 2024 and subsequently on 4th July, 2024, where the group achieved an impressive audit score of 70.1%.

The implementation of 5S has brought tangible benefits to the Oxygen Plant, including the generation of Rs. 2.26 lakh in revenue through the disposal of 11.8 tons of scrap materials and the freeing up of 172 square meters of floor space. Additionally, the team has significantly minimized retrieval times for files, documents, and spare parts, enhancing overall efficiency.

The success of this initiative is attributed to the dedicated efforts of the Shrusti Quality Circle team members comprising Mr. MukhLal Majhi, MOMT, Group Leader, Mr. Sudhansu Sekhar Barad, SOST,  Deputy Leader and Mr. Gurmail Singh,OCT, Member led by Mr. Sunil Kumar Panigrahi, AGM and Facilitator.

Recently at the Plant level competition the team was awarded with gold for its commendable performance towards continuous improvement.
