Seminar organized on Lubricant Technology for Engineers at SAIL Rourkela Steel Plant

Seminar on Lubricant Technology for Engineers was organized recently at the R & C Laboratory Conference Hall of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP). The theme of the seminar was ‘New Generations Lubricating Oil & Greases for Steel Industry’. Mr. B. Sunil Kartha, CGM (SMS-I) was the Chief Guest in the inaugural session while Mr. Deepak Roy, CGM (Power) was the Guest of Honour. Mr R.N.Rajendran, CGM (Mechanical & Shops) & Chairman of TF-Lubricant was the key note speaker of the seminar. Mr. Ravi Bisare, CGM (New Plate Mill), Mr. Etwa Oraon, CGM (Plate Mill), Mr. T P Shivshankar, CGM (SMS-II), Mr. P K Sahu, CGM (L&D) were also present on the occasion. About 60 executives from different units of the plant attended the seminar.

Mr. Kartha encouraged participants to leverage the opportunity to gain knowledge from the experienced panel. Mr. Roy shared his insights on managing petroleum products efficiently, while Mr. Rajendran provided an overview of the current lubricant management system at RSP and the future roadmap.

The seminar was hosted by M/s IOCL, a key lubricant supplier for RSP. Senior officers from IOCL, including Mr. P.V.R. Satish, GM, Mr. Kuldeep Pradhan, Senior Manager, and Mr. Nabin Banzar, Assistant Manager, along with members of the Technical Services Group, presented the latest advancements in lubricant technology. The various key points discussed in the seminar included Advanced & High-Performance Lubricants to improve efficiency and productivity, High Performance greases to reduce grease consumption in the plant and High Performance Differentiated Diesel Xtra Green with lower carbon footprint.

Notably, in the manufacturing sector lubrication plays a critical role in achieving desired productivity, equipment reliability, and operational efficiency. Continuous advancements in lubricant technology, driven by research and development in oil manufacturing companies, have significantly benefited the steel industry also. The seminar was coordinated by MSS, the central agency responsible for lubricant procurement at RSP, under the leadership of Mr. Abhijit Ghosh, GM In-Charge (MSS), and with the guidance of CGM (Mechanical & Shops). M/s IOCL’s collaboration enabled RSP engineers to stay updated with cutting-edge developments in lubrication technology.
