South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) has been recognized as the number one performer among coal and lignite public sector undertakings for the third successive year in the Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances (DARPG) and Ministry of Coal’s Special Campaign 5.0. Held in New Delhi, the award ceremony saw SECL being honored for its outstanding achievements in cleanliness, scrap disposal, digital initiatives, and media outreach. The awards were presented by Union Minister of Coal & Mines Shri G. Kishan Reddy, Coal Secretary Shri Vikram Dev Dutt, and Additional Secretary (Coal) Shri Sanoj Kumar Jha, acknowledging SECL’s consistent excellence and commitment to public service.
During the event, SECL was also felicitated for its exceptional efforts in Swachhta Pakhwada 2025, securing the second prize in recognition of its dedication to cleanliness and social responsibility. The company’s leadership, including CMD Shri Harish Duhan and other senior officials, received the awards on behalf of SECL, highlighting the organization’s holistic approach to sustainable development and operational excellence. The campaign, conducted from October 2 to 31, 2025, showcased SECL’s remarkable accomplishments across various domains such as site management, waste recycling, and digital governance, reinforcing its position as a leader in the coal sector.
SECL’s achievements in the campaign are impressive, with a 115% target achievement in cleanliness and site management, covering over 43 lakh sq. ft. across 229 sites. Its scrap disposal efforts generated around ₹24 crore in revenue by recycling over 6,400 metric tonnes, more than doubling the target. The company also excelled in record management, reviewing over 2,100 physical files and 23,000 e-files, successfully closing 20,000 e-files, achieving more than 350% of its goal. Innovative sustainability initiatives like the ‘Waste to Wealth’ project at Gevra, converting biodegradable waste into organic fertilizer, and the launch of digital portals for transparency and governance, exemplify SECL’s commitment to inclusive growth, environmental responsibility, and technological advancement. The creative ‘Kabaad Se Kalakriti’ project, where employees crafted models from industrial scrap, further showcased SECL’s spirit of innovation, patriotism, and sustainability, reinforcing its leadership role in the sector.
