South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) organized a one-day workshop on the safe installation and maintenance of Electrical and Mechanical equipment and Heavy Earth Moving Machinery (HEMM) at its Bilaspur Headquarters on 20 November 2025, under the aegis of DGMS. The event was inaugurated by SECL CMD Harish Duhan, along with senior SECL directors, DGMS officials from the Western Zone, and representatives of various trade unions. In his address, Duhan emphasized SECL’s focus on enhancing safety through technological upgrades, mechanization, and timely equipment replacement. Directors N. Franklin Jayakumar and Ramesh Chandra Mahapatra highlighted the role of such workshops in strengthening safety culture, stressing practical improvements, the Zero Harm mission, and adherence to the ‘Take-5 Rule’. Nearly 300 participants from SECL’s electrical, mechanical, and excavation wings took part in the workshop.
Three technical sessions were led by DGMS officials, covering critical electrical topics such as fault current, earthing systems, grading–coordination, current grade systems, and transformers, along with key mechanical guidelines on statutory compliance, logbook maintenance, and accident prevention. The programme featured presentations by SECL’s General Manager (Safety & Rescue) Prakash Rai and General Manager (Excavation) Deepak Kumar, as well as safety briefings by OEMs L&T and Komatsu. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by General Manager (E&M) Srikant Das, with the proceedings anchored by Sheikh Zakir Husain and Mitali Tiwari.
