The New Plate Mill (NPM) department of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has undertaken a series of proactive safety initiatives aimed at reducing hazards and boosting operational efficiency. The department has installed a Windsock near the Reheating Furnace, which is a gas-prone area, under the leadership of Mr. Nilamani Mohapatra, GM, (NPM). The windsock acts as a visual indicator of wind direction, assisting personnel in identifying safe evacuation routes and responding swiftly in case of gas leaks. It aids in minimizing exposure to hazardous gases by guiding workers to move upwind and also supports containment efforts during emergencies.
The project was executed under the close supervision of Mr. Suman Kumar, Senior Manager, DSO (NPM), under the guidance of Mr. R.K. Bisare, CGM (NPM & SPP) and Ms. Asha Sunil Kartha, CGM (Safety & Fire Services). These additions are expected to significantly improve the safety standards at the shop floor while supporting the plant’s commitment towards a safer and more efficient working environment.
