Reinforcing its commitment towards inclusive development and community welfare, SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives has made a significant impact in the field of healthcare during FY 2025-26, benefitting thousands of people across peripheral villages and industrial slum areas of Rourkela.

Through a wide network of Free Health Centres, Medical Aid Centres, Mobile Medical Units, Multi-Disciplinary Health Camps and Eye Care Camps, RSP is ensuring access to both basic and specialised healthcare services for underserved communities in the blocks of Kuarmunda, Lathikata, Nuagaon and Bisra, besides slum pockets of the Steel Township.

The Free Health Centres at Jalda Resettlement Colony (Lathikata Block), Chikatmati Model Steel Village (Kuarmunda Block) and Ispat Sanjivani, Sector-6 continue to serve as a vital support system for economically weaker sections by providing consultation, treatment and essential medicines. These centres operate six days a week.

To further strengthen rural healthcare access, Medical Aid Centres are operating in 25 peripheral villages through NGO partners, delivering timely medical attention for common ailments, maternal and child care, and preventive health services. In addition, the Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) remained operational in the industrial slums of Steel Township, providing basic healthcare facilities, medicines and consultations to needy residents.

A major highlight of the year was the organisation of five Multi-Disciplinary Health Camps at Kacharu, Fuljhore, Birda, Sarubahal and Bagdega, spread across four peripheral blocks, which benefitted around a thousand patients. The camps offered specialised consultation in Eye Care, ENT, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, General Medicine, Dermatology and Paediatrics. Notably, 134 patients requiring advanced medical support were referred to Ispat General Hospital (IGH) for further investigation and free treatment.

Another notable achievement was the Mobile Eye Care Camp programme conducted in collaboration with Centurion University, under which 1467 patients were treated and 873 spectacles were distributed across various locations in Bisra, Lathikata and Kuarmunda blocks.

In addition, RSP-CSR empowered differently-abled persons by distributing assistive devices worth Rs. 16.33 lakh, providing 142 assistive items to 80 beneficiaries in different camps.

Periodic health awareness and screening programmes were also conducted in Hamirpur area, Sector-5, Rourkela and other locations through Deepika Mahila Sanghati, focusing on strengthening community health awareness and support for women and families.
