As part of the ongoing Swachhata Pakhwada campaign, a major cleanliness drive was carried out at Ispat Haat (Munda Market), Sector-19 by the Town Engineering–Public Health (TE-PH) team of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP).

The location was first identified by the TE-PH team considering the need for improved sanitation and hygiene in the busy market area. Prior to the drive, the Public Health team conducted an awareness initiative among shopkeepers, vegetable vendors and local stakeholders, sensitising them about the importance of maintaining cleanliness and proper waste disposal.

Following the awareness activities, extensive cleaning of the major areas of the market was undertaken with the help of heavy machinery, including JCB, to remove accumulated waste and debris.

Continuing the initiative, a massive cleanliness drive was organised the next day with the active participation of around 30 Swachhata Swabhiman teams. The drive was led by Mr. B. K. Jojo, CGM (TE & Horticulture)Mr. Manas Rath, CGM (HR) and Mr. T. G. Kanekar, CGM (TS & CSR). Employees from various Town services departments joined the effort and collectively undertook cleaning activities across different sections of the market area.

The drive forms part of SAIL RSP’s continuous commitment to promoting sanitation, environmental responsibility and community participation under the Swachhata Pakhwada programme.
