SAIL Rourkela Steel Plant National Road Safety Month

Two Suraksha Raths were flagged off in SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) by Mr. Biswaranjan Palai, ED (Works) on 6th January 2025 to mark the observance of National Road Safety Month. Present on the occasion were many CGMs, HODs and Senior Officers, DSOs, ASOs, and a large number of employees, including contractual workers of the Plant.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Palai underscored the paramount importance of human life in the context of road accidents. He urged everyone to strictly adhere to traffic and safety rules and also motivate others to do the same, both within the plant premises and outside, for the well-being of self, family members, colleagues and society at large.

A Suraksha skit by Mr. R.C.Mohanty, Junior Engineer (T&RM) and his team was staged and a signature campaign owning the responsibility for safety was organised. A Safety Bulletin was released on the occasion, and awards were presented to two executives, two employees, and two agencies in recognition of their consistent practice of defensive driving throughout the year.

The Road Safety Pledge was administered by Mr. R K Muduli, CGM(NPM, SPP & Digitalisation), Ms. Sunita Singh, CGM (PPC) and Mr. A C Sarkar, CGM In-Charge (Services) in Odia, Hindi and English respectively.

The two Suraksha Raths equipped with a public announcement system, were decked with colourful posters carrying road safety messages and do’s and don’ts. One Suraksha Rath, will travel across various plant units to spread awareness, while the other will cover the RSP township to sensitise residents on road safety practices.

As part of the ongoing month-long campaign, Road Safety Human Chains are being organised at strategic locations by various departments in association with the Safety Engineering Department. The campaign also includes leaflet distribution and vehicle stickering at all plant gates, road safety awareness programmes, competitions and safety training sessions for different segments of employees and contract labour.

The various initiatives are being organized by the Safety Engineering Department under the guidance of Mr. Hiralal Mohapatra, CGM (Safety & Fire Services), Mr. Abaksa Behera, GM  (Safety Engineering)and Mr.B.K.Padhi,AGM(SED).
