In its pursuit for sustainable industrial practices and its vision for an eco-friendly future SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has signed a contract with the Consortium of M/s Effwa Infra & Research Pvt. Ltd., Thane & M/s SMC Resources SDN, Kuala Lumpur for the implementation of “Treatment System-2 under the Zero Liquid Discharge system, including Operation and Maintenance for five years” at RSP in Projects Conference Room on 12th March 2025.
The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Mr. Sudip Pal Chowdhury, ED (Projects), Mr. Pinaki Choudhury, CGM (Projects), Dr. Girija Sankar Das, CGM (Internal Audit), Mr. Hiralal Mohapatra, CGM (Utilities & Environment), Mr. D.K. Bhanja, CGM (PD) and other senior officials of RSP, MECON and Consortium members.
The Treatment System-2 will have a capacity to treat 1920 CUM of wastewater per hour, which will be recycled into the makeup water system of RSP for re-utilization. This initiative will significantly reduce the fresh raw water intake from the river Brahmani, contributing to water conservation and environmental sustainability.
With this project, RSP is taking a major step towards becoming a Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) Plant by efficiently recycling used water. The installation of Treatment System-2 will be instrumental in achieving this objective, reinforcing RSP’s commitment to a sustainable environment and the production of green steel.
Notably, the Letter of Award (LOA) for the project was issued on 28th February 2025, and the implementation schedule is set at 18 months from the effective date of the contract. The project consultant for this initiative is M/s MECON Limited, Ranchi.
