The Power Distribution Department of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has successfully simulated and commissioned the 250 MW Unit Grid Islanding System on 1st September 2025. This milestone marks a significant stride in enhancing operational efficiency and cost optimization, thereby contributing to greater profitability. It is noteworthy that the Power Distribution Department meticulously planned and executed the critical job keeping close coordination with Captive Power Plant-I, Power & Blowing Station, and NSPCL, under the strategic guidance and motivational support of RSP’s top management.
Congratulating the team, Mr. Alok Verma, Director Incharge, RSP with additional charge of Bokaro Steel Plant has urged the employees to keep the RSP flag flying high and north.
The efficacy of the scheme was effectively tested during a grid disturbance on 2nd September 2025. Following this development, the two less efficient 60 MW units of CPP-II have been stopped until further decision.
It is noteworthy that the 250 MW generating unit is not only highly efficient but also a state-of-the-art facility. Maximizing generation from this unit while keeping the 60 MW units under preservation on a continuous basis is expected to have a substantial positive impact on the plant’s profitability, as envisaged in the Annual Business Plan 2025-26.
