SAIL Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has bagged the prestigious GEEF Global Sustainability award 2024. In a glittering award ceremony held at New Delhi on 8th November 2024, Dr. Lalit Varma, IAS Former Additional Chief Secretary to the UP Government and Chairman of Global Energy & Environment Foundation (GEEF) presented the award. Present on the occasion were Dr. Bibek Bandyopadhyay, Former Senior Advisor to the Government of India and Mr. Nico Schiettekatte, Counselor for Health, Welfare & Sport, Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in India. This award, presented by the Global Energy & Environment Foundation (GEEF), an internationally reputed NGO, recognizes RSP’s outstanding achievements in environmental management throughout the year 2023–24.
In the award ceremony organised at New Delhi, on behalf of RSP the award was received by Mr. Hiralal Mohapatra, CGM (Utility & Environment).
It is worth mentioning here that, the GEEF Global Sustainability Award is given annually to organizations, companies, and individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of environmental sustainability and have adopted best environmental practices.
Notably, RSP’s eco-friendly initiatives in steel-making were key factors in the selection for this coveted award. Their efforts include steps taken to bring down sustainability parameters such as specific energy consumption, water consumption, pollution load, reduction of carbon footprint and specific raw material consumption during the year 2023-2024.
