A special two phase sewing training module commenced at Institute for Peripheral Development, of the CSR Office of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant on 9th February 2026. Ms. Munmun Mittra, GM In-charge (CSR) presided over the inaugural function. Present on the occasion were Mr. Bivabasu Mallick, GM (CSR), Mr. R S Bara, DGM (CSR), Mr. T B Toppo, DGM (CSR), Mr. Binayak Jena, AGM (CSR), representative from Usha Silai School and Gram Uthaan and other officials of the organisation. 11 women of Self Help Groups of Baniguni village in Kuarmunda Block and Jhirpani Re-Settlement Colony of Bisra Block will be undergoing this training. Mr. T B Toppo welcomed the gathering while Mr. S K Sukula, Deputy Manager (CSR) proposed a formal vote of thanks. Mr. Zahid Akhtar coordinated the function.

The aim of the programme is to develop the skill of underprivileged women in tailoring and to establish Training cum Production Centre (TCPC) at Peripheral village site.
The first phase comprises training in Sewing machine installation, repair and servicing, designing and pattern making, measurement techniques and cutting, sewing and stitching, garment fitting, hemming and interlocking, packaging and fasting and specific garment making training.
After the completion of the first phase each trainee would be provided with a commercial sewing machine. The second phase would be a 10 days refresher course on site after a period of six months.
