SAIL Rourkela Initiatives to protect the fauna from scorching summer heat

SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant has been taking all necessary actions and precautions during  the scorching summer heat. Coolers are fixed in the enclosures of monkey, macau and other avian species. Cold wateris being sprayed over , bear, deer and emus on a regular basis through water tankers. Water pools have been dug inside the paddock for bathing of bear, deer and emus.

Round the clock water supply is ensured for all birds and animals. Flowing water has been arranged so as to avoid scum formation. Water is provided in wallowing ponds for wallowing animals. The dwellings are cleaned on regular basis with medicinal disinfectants. Water Tankers are provided for sprinkling water on the sheds of the animals on every alternate day to prevent excessive heat.

Notably the Indira Gandhi Park Zoo is the second largest integrated zoo of the state which houses 135 animals and birds belonging to 23 species and gets a footfall of around a lakh visitors.
