– More than 2300 individuals participate in the Walk and Run
SAIL Foundation Day was celebrated with pomp and gaiety by Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) on 24th January 2024. Mr Alok Verma, Director in-Charge (DIC), RSP was the Chief Guest of SAIL Day function organised at Ispat Stadium. The Chief Guest unfurled the SAIL flag amidst the sail anthem and released the balloons to mark the beginning of the celebration. Present on the occasion were Mr. Tarun Misra, ED (HR), Mr. A K Behuria, ED (F&A), Mr. Biswaranjan Palai, ED (Works), Mr. Anil Kumar, ED (MM), Mr. M P Singh, ED (Mines), Mr. Sudip Pal Chowdhury, ED (Projects), Dr. Jayant Kumar Acharya, CMO In-charge (M&HS), Mr. Ashok Jalwania, Senior Commandant, CISF and a large number of other senior officers and employees.
The Director In-Charge flagged off the 5 Kilometre long SAIL Walk and Run that witnessed enthusiastic participation by more than 2300 employees and former employees of SAIL as well their family members along with school and college students.
The SAIL Day pledge ‘I shall keep myself in good health to serve better.’ was also administered to all by Mr. Alok Verma in English, Mr. Tarun Misra in Hindi and, Mr. AK Behuria in Odia.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Alok Verma congratulated the young and old for their enthusiastic participation. He also announced about a National level Half Marathon to be organised by RSP next year, which will be a mega event in which right from National level runners to sportspersons from the State and even periphery areas will be invited to participate.
The Senior Officers also walked around the stadium to mark the occasion.
In the award giving ceremony Mr. Alok Verma gave away prizes to the winners in various categories of the walk and run competition. The best clocking award in men’s category was won by Tinku Tirkey from Municipal College who completed the run in 18.33.25 minutes while in female category the award was bagged by Kiran Mohato, who registered 23.59.90 minutes. Some major attractions of the event were the 80 year old Mrs. Sarojini Soreng and 74 year old Mrs Urmila Das winning prizes for the Walk & Run.
The Raw Material Handling Plant Department bagged the Best Participating Department award for highest number of participants that is 230. Deepika Ispat Siksha Sadan, Sector – 18 won the Best Participating School award with the highest number of participants i.e. 588 in the walk and run.
A cultural programme was staged on this occasion on the theme of SAIL Foundation Day. Mr. B K Jojo, CGM (Town Engineering and Horticulture) proposed a Vote of Thanks at the end.
Mr. T G Kanekar, GM In-Charge (TS & Sports) along with Mr. Raghu N Padhi, Deputy Manager (Sports) and the team of Sports Deptt coordinated the program. Mr. Anil Mallick of Silicon Steel Mill was the master of ceremony.
Similar functions were observed by Odisha Group of Mines at Ispat High School playground, Tensa and Barsuan High School Ground. Mr. Himanshu Mishra, CGM (BIM, KIM & Taldih) and Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Assistant CMO (BIM) hoisted the SAIL Flag at Tensa and Barsuan respectively Several Senior Officer and employees attended the function. In Bolani Ore Mines Mr. Joydev Chattopadhyay, CGM (BOM) hoisted the SAIL Flag in a function organized at Bolani Football Ground.
