SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) recently conducted two sessions of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) training aimed at upskilling contract workers in different specialized areas under the Kaushal Bharat initiative. The first session focused on “Metal Fabrication – Iron and Steel,” while the second covered “Rigging of Heavy Material.”
The “Metal Fabrication – Iron and Steel” training was inaugurated by Mr. S C Sabat, GM In-charge (Shops – Structural and Fabrication Safety & PCS), and Mr. H N Pati, GM (HR-L&D). Seventeen contract workers from various departments participated in this session, The two-day program emphasized jointing, bending, grinding, safety procedures, working at height, and health and wellbeing, prioritizing professional development and upskilling.
Similarly, the “Rigging of Heavy Material” training session saw participation from 27 contract workers and was inaugurated by Mr. A K Pandey, GM (Plate Mill), alongside Mr. H N Pati, GM (HR-L&D). The technical sessions focussed on the selection of tools and tackles, load distribution analysis, safe movement of heavy loads, safety procedures, soft skills, and health and wellbeing.
Both the sessions were conducted by expert trainers from the Indian Iron & Steel Sector Skill Council (IISSSC). Mr. L Marandi, Senior Manager (HR-L&D) and Mr. A R Behera, Junior Officer (HR-L&D) coordinated the programme.
