Pushkar Singh Dhami has been confirmed to take oath as Uttarakhand Chief Minister on Wednesday at 3:30 pm, reported news agency .
Along with Dhami, his cabinet will also be administered the oath. The swearing-in ceremony will take place at the Parade Ground in Dehradun.
The decision to make Dhami the CM of the hill state was announced on Monday after a legislature party meeting in Dehradun. The meeting was attended by BJP’s central observers for Uttarakhand Rajnath Singh, Meenakshi Lekhi, and the party’s poll in charge for the state Pralhad Joshi.
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had made the announcement on Monday. “Pushkar Singh Dhami has been elected as the Leader of the Legislative Party. I congratulate him, I am confident that under his leadership Uttarakhand will make rapid progress,” Singh had tweeted.
There was a lot of speculation over CM’s name in Uttarakhand after Dhami lost from the Khatima constituency in the recently concluded assembly elections.
Dhami was BJP’s frontrunner for CM and also led the party to a second-time win in Uttarakhand. He was appointed as the CM of the state in July 2021 after Tirath Singh Rawat could not get elected as CM in the by-elections as he was covid-19 positive during the elections.
in Goa as well, with the BJP picking Pramod Sawant for a second term, ending an 11-day suspense and dashing the hopes of former state Health Minister Vishwajit Rane who was seen as the frontrunner for the role by many.
BJP mustering 20 seats on its own in the 40-member Goa assembly – one short of a full majority, it was the vital support of independent MLAs that closed the choice of Mr Sawant, sources said.
Mr Sawant has been rewarded for overcoming anti-incumbency and steering the party to victory despite resignations by some key figures, including the son of former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
Under his stewardship of the state, the BJP put up its second-best performance ever – winning 20 seats. The BJP had won an outright majority under Mr Parrikar in 2012 when it won 21 seats.
Both Mr Dhami and Mr Sawant got the final green light after a meeting at PM Modi’s residence on Sunday evening, the latest in a series of high-powered huddles since the results were declared on March 10, they added.
