A programme on Basic Project Management commenced at the L&D Centre of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) on 28th October 2025. Mr. Tarun Misra, ED (HR) presided over the inaugural session. Mr. A. R. Dasgupta, Former ED (Projects), ISP and Mr. P K Sahoo, CGM (HR-L&D) also shared the dais. The four day programme aims to develop the necessary knowledge and skills of the participants to plan and execute projects effectively. 27 executives from RSP, Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP), Bokaro Steel Limited (BSL), Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP) are participating in the four day training programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Misra highlighted the importance of systematic project management in achieving organisational excellence and urged the participants to leverage the learning for improving project outcomes across the SAIL plants.
The programme seeks to familiarise the participants with various phases of a project, from concept to commissioning and to help them understand the roles and responsibilities of different agencies involved. It also focuses on enabling them to plan and manage projects efficiently, covering aspects such as tendering, contract formulation, scheduling, resource planning, monitoring, and coordination among multiple stakeholders.
The sessions are covering a wide range of topics including Project Management Concepts and Practices, Project Management in SAIL, Vision 2030: Modernisation and Expansion Plans, Project Appraisal, Tendering and Contract Formulation, Project Execution, Closure of Projects, Project Scheduling and Monitoring, Use of Digital Technologies in Project Management, and Managing Project Safety. Case studies on project planning, execution, monitoring, control, and closure are also being discussed to provide practical insights.
The programme emphasises the importance of adopting effective approaches for ensuring safety in project execution and adhering to established procedures and guidelines for successful project completion.
The ongoing sessions are helping participants enhance their understanding of systematic project management practices and develop a holistic perspective towards achieving organisational objectives through effective project execution.
The sessions are being conducted by Mr. A. R. Dasgupta, Former ED (Projects), ISP, Mr. Sudhir Kumar, GM (Projects), BSL, Mr. Pratyush Sharma, CGM (Projects), BSL, Ms. Asha Kartha, CGM (Safety & Fire Services), RSP and an expert from MANSYCOM, RSP. Mr. Srimant Kumar Mallick, GM (HR–L&D), MTI, SAIL is the facilitator of the programme. Mr. M K Agarwal, GM (HR-L&D) coordinated the inaugural session of the programme.
