Power Grid Corporation of India Limited has acquired the TBCB Project SPV – ‘Khavda V A Power Transmission Limited’, the first-ever High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) project to be tendered through Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) on 19th November 2024. The project SPV, with an estimated cost of ?24,819 Crore (as per NCT estimations), is part of the scheme designed for evacuating 8 GW of renewable energy under Phase V: Part A from the Khavda Renewable Energy Zone in Gujarat, one of the largest RE zones in the country.
The project includes establishment of 6000 MW, ± 800 kV HVDC terminals at KPS2 (Gujarat) & Nagpur (Maharashtra), ± 800 kV HVDC Bipole transmission line between KPS2 & Nagpur (~1200 km) traversing through Gujarat and Maharashtra, LILO of Wardha – Raipur 765 kV D/C line at Nagpur in Maharashtra, including supply & installation of various associated equipment/ interconnections at terminal stations.
