PM Modi to address the nation tonight

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation at 8 pm today on the coronavirus outbreak. He will address the nation on vital aspects relating to the menace of COVID-19, the Prime Minister said in a tweet. “Will address the nation at 8 PM today, 24th March 2020, on vital aspects relating to the menace of COVID-19,” Modi tweeted.

This is the second time in a week when the prime minister will address the country on coronavirus.

Earlier, addressing the nation on efforts to combat the novel coronavirus on 19 March, PM Modi had asked all Indians to stay home on March 22 Sunday between 7 am and 9 pm to fight the rapidly-spreading coronavirus. “Janata curfew (People’s curfew) – Janata curfew for the people, janata curfew by the people, self imposed janata curfew on 22 March between 7 am and 9 pm. All citizens should follow janata curfew. No citizen should step out or congregate,” he said in an address to the nation.

Modi cautioned that India could not be immune to the global pandemic caused by the coronavirus. He said social distancing was very important in such times.

Nearly 500 coronavirus cases have been reported in India so far, according to data released by the health ministry today. Nine people have died from the disease so far.
