Petroleum Minister launches Indian Oil's 'ETHANOL 100' fuel

Union Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, launched ‘ETHANOL 100,’ a cleaner alternative to gasoline, at Indian Oil’s Irwin Road Service Station. Initially available at 183 outlets across Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, New Delhi, and Tamil Nadu, ETHANOL 100 offers lower emissions and higher octane ratings, suitable for high-performance engines and flex-fuel vehicles. Inspired by the Prime Minister’s vision to reduce import dependency and boost agriculture, ETHANOL 100 signifies a commitment to achieving 20% ethanol blending by 2025-26. Oil marketing companies have signed agreements with 131 ethanol plants, with Indian Oil leading the transition towards sustainable mobility.

During the last 10 years these ethanol blending initiatives have enhanced farmer incomes, increased rural employment, reduced CO2 emissions equivalent to planting 1.75 crore trees, and resulted in savings of Rs 85,000 crore worth of foreign exchange” he stated.

Petroleum Secretary Pankaj Jain, Indian Oil’s Chairman Shrikant Madhav Vaidya senior officials from the Petroleum Ministry, and functional Directors of Indian Oil also participated in the launch ceremony.

Addressing the gathering, the Indian Oil Chairman highlighted that India is among the few countries of the world to have ETHANOL 100 fuel. He said, “This marks a significant milestone in India’s journey towards sustainability and clean mobility.
