PESB Finds No Suitable Candidate for CMD Post at NTPC

New Delhi: The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB), after conducting interviews for the post of Chairman & Managing Director (CMD), NTPC Limited, has not found any candidate suitable for the position.

In its official notification, PESB stated: “The Board did not recommend any candidate for the post and has advised the Administrative Ministry/Department to take an appropriate course of further action, including the constitution of a Search-cum-Selection Committee (SCSC) or any other process as deemed fit, with the approval of the competent authority.

“This development opens up the possibility of a service extension for the current CMD, Shri Gurdeep Singh. In the past, a similar route was adopted in the selection process for the CMD of ONGC, where a Search-cum-Selection Committee was formed and the age limit was relaxed to allow the appointment of Shri Arun Kumar Singh, along with a two-year extension.

As per existing norms, officials in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) are to superannuate upon attaining the age of 60. However, the government has discretionary power to relax this condition, subject to approval by the competent authority.

Candidates interviewed today by PESB:
Shri Shivam Srivastava, Director (Fuel), NTPC Ltd
Shri Bhupender Gupta, Director (Technical), THDC India Ltd
Shri Ravindra Kumar, Director (Operations), NTPC Ltd
Shri Shaswattam, Executive Director, NTPC Ltd
Shri Somes Bandyopadhyay, Managing Director, GSECL (on deputation from NTPC)
Shri Kapil Kumar Gupta, Director (Finance), MMTC Ltd
Shri Mukesh Choudhary, Director (Marketing), Coal India Ltd
Shri Ajit Kumar Panda, Director (Project & Services), Container Corporation of India Ltd
Shri Thangarajan Subash Chandira Bosh, CEO, REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd
Shri Rajil Srivastava, Executive Director (Asset Management), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd
Shri Sanoj Kumar Jha, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Coal (IAS), Government of India,
Shri Abhay Arun Harne, Director, MSEB Mahagenco (MSPGCL),

In light of PESB’s observation, the Ministry of Power may now consider forming a Search-cum-Selection Committee to identify suitable candidates from within and outside the current PSU leadership pool, including the consideration of the incumbent.

Further developments will be subject to approvals by the competent authority and as per the applicable rules and procedures.
