ONGC has signed a Heads of Agreement with Japan’s Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd. to develop, own, and operate two state-of-the-art Very Large Ethane Carriers (VLECs). This strategic partnership aims to revolutionize the way India sources and utilizes feedstock for its petrochemical sector.
These mega vessels are designed to deliver imported ethane directly to ONGC Petro Additions Limited (OPAL), ensuring a reliable and self-sufficient supply chain for advanced petrochemical production. By securing a steady influx of ethane, ONGC is taking a major step in reducing dependency on external sources and bolstering India’s energy security.
This global collaboration underscores ONGC’s commitment to downstream expansion, combining technological innovation, operational scale, and strategic foresight. The initiative not only marks a bold leap towards a self-reliant petrochemical future but also reinforces India’s position in the global energy and petrochemical landscape.
