NTPC has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Indian Army for the sale of 200 kW RE-RTC power from a Solar-Hydrogen-based microgrid at Chushul, Ladakh, for a period of 25 years. This microgrid offers a sustainable solution to replace the Army’s existing diesel generators, eliminating fossil fuel logistics and reducing CO₂ emissions by 1,500 tons per year.
This is the world’s most unique hydrogen-based off-grid microgrid project, located at an altitude of 4,400 meters, where temperatures drop to -30°C in winter. Once operational, it will usher in a new era of decarbonisation and modernisation in the defence sector at border locations in the Himalayas.
